The ride ain’t over. Setelah sukses dengan 8 musim serial televisi, Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his boys Eric “E” Murphy (Kevin Connolly), Turtle (Jerry Ferrara), Johnny “Drama” Chase (Kevin Dillon), dan tentunya sang super-agent yang kini sudah menjadi kepala studio Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven), kembali dalam layar lebar untuk sesuatu yang lebih besar. Before I go deeper about the movie, let’s just say that it was made for true fans. Jadi, kalau kalian belum pernah menonton serialnya, atau hanya menonton sekilas saja, you will not enjoy this movie as much as I did.
Seperti plot Entourage sejak dulu, film yang disutradarai oleh Doug Ellin ini bercerita tentang the ups and downs of making a movie. We catch up with the boys tak sampai dua minggu setelah peristiwa di season finale. Dengan kembalinya Ari Gold, Vince yang pertunangannya dengan Sophia dibatalkan setelah beberapa hari saja memutuskan bahwa everything he does next, he also wants to direct. And because he is Vincent Chase, he will indeed direct a film. Kali ini, masalah dimulai saat Vince dan E sebagai produser membutuhkan dana lebih untuk menyelesaikan penyuntingan Hyde, judul film yang disutradari oleh Vince. Padahal studio mulai meragukan kualifikasi mereka. Ari Gold pun kebingungan.
Suguhan yang sangat segar bagi kami para penggemar untuk bertemu kembali dengan kawanan ini di layar lebar. Ada perasaan menyenangkan tersendiri melihat how passionate Vince is about what he does and how he convinces everyone to agree with him, kelanjutan hubungan E dan Sloan yang penuh drama, kekonyolan Johnny Drama yang selalu mengundang tawa, dan Turtle, pecundang yang sekarang sudah kurus dan kaya raya, serta Ari Gold, my personal favorite character in the story, the super-agent-turned-to-head-of-studio dan dialog sarkasnya yang sangat smart. Bagi saya, daya tarik Entourage adalah pendalaman kelima karakter tersebut and how the strong bonds between them can get them through things. and its beautiful.

Begitu banyak nostalgic moments yang sangat memikat secara emosional. Mulai dari intro song “Superhero” oleh Jane’s Addiction yang bikin merinding, dialog atau scene yang sedikit-banyak berhubungan dengan episode lama, sampai kemunculan supporting characters yang pernah muncul di beberapa episode serialnya seperti Billy Walsh, Dana Gordon, Bob Ryan, Bob Saget, Dom, Gary Busey, bahkan Saigon. Kemunculan cameo nama-nama besar seperti Pharrel Williams, Jessica Alba, Calvin Harris, sampai Warren Buffett tentunya menambah warna ciri khas Entourage. Ada banyak hal yang tidak akan dapat dimengerti oleh first-time audience. Misalnya, jokes about how fat Turtle was and how he used to be a big fat loser who drives for Vince (He’s still a loser though, dont worry!), atau cerita tentang E dan Sloan yang cukup emosional bagi kami yang mengikutinya since day one.
As much as i loved the movie, I have to admit it has flaws, even in fan’s perspective. I personally dislike the appearance of Travis McCredle, anak dari Larsen McCredle, financier dari Hyde. Travis, seorang anak muda kaya raya yang sombong dan belagu, mencoba menghancurkan Hyde karena ia merasa cemburu terhadap Vince yang mengencani Emily Ratajkowski (by the way, she’s super hot). Bagi saya, karakter Travis dan bagaimana ia mengambil peran dalam film ini terlalu cheesy untuk Entourage. Ada banyak unlikeable characters dalam serial entourage seperti Dom, Bob Ryan atau Terrance. Meskipun menonton mereka dapat membuat penonton kesal dan annoyed, they are a good essence that makes the series. Travis, on the other hand, is just not one of them.
Moreover, salah satu scene yang cukup emosional dalam film ini adalah ending-nya. I’ll just say it. Johnny Chase won a Golden Globe. Yes, THAT old loser Johnny Drama. He won a fucking Golden Globe for a four-scene supporting role in Hyde. It’s really touching for us fans to see him finally make something in his career as an actor, after all this time. Meskipun begitu, jika dibandingkan, i still like the series’ ending better. Well, the series ends perfectly. Nothing can top that. However, the movie still ends well. Film diakhiri dengan speech Johnny Chase yang mengutip catchphrase dari Tarvold, karakter yang dulu ia lakoni dalam serial televisi Viking Quest: “VICTORY!”

It’s a real challenge to make a movie based on such a successful TV series that will actually live up to it. Entourage, in my opinion as a fan, tidak gagal dalam melakukan hal tersebut, meski masih belum berhasil sepenuhnya. It’s like watching an extended version of the series.
As huge fan of the series, I’m just gonna say that I enjoyed watching Entourage on the big screen. If you’re also a huge fan, you’re undoubtedly going to enjoy it as well. Victory!
